As they gathered their things, Juniper felt a pang of something bittersweet, like the last sip of coffee, strong and lingering. This house, with its familiar creaks and comforting scents of pine and baking spices, held so much of her past, each room a repository of memories. Yet, she couldn’t shake the restlessness that had settled deep within her… a longing for something more, something meaningful, that called to her like a siren song. She gave one last look around before gathering Jacob and heading to the car.
The car hummed softly as Juniper re-navigated the winding roads leading back to her family home just outside the city. Jacob sat beside her, happily munching away, chocolate smudged all over his right cheek.
