Alisha smiled warmly. “It’s gonna be okay. If Kenery put him on the case, then I would trust his judgment.”

“You’re right,” Juniper agreed. “Maybe I should give him… and myself… a chance.”

Alisha nodded. “Tomorrow’s a new day.”

They spent the next hour going on about everything and nothing… reminiscing about old times, sharing hopes for the future, and simply enjoying each other’s company…

…As gazes were both drawn to the shimmering lake that spanned the city. The water’s surface was painted in a myriad of colors, reflecting the vibrant lights of the surrounding buildings. Suddenly, Alisha pointed towards a group of people gathered near the slips, their laughter carrying across the still night air.

“Look, Juni! Those crazy folks are getting ready for the polar swim tomorrow morning.” Juniper chuckled, shaking her head in disbelief. “Don’t they know they’re going to freeze to death out there? I mean, it’s the middle of winter!” Alisha grinned mischievously, leaning in closer as if sharing a secret.
