Daniel’s hand instantly gripped to the table beside her. She caught his slight head shake in her peripheral vision, too late.

“Objection, Your Honor,” Roma’s tone carrying barely concealed triumph. “Counsel is attempting to pre-condition the juror on specific constitutional interpretations. This line of questioning violates the precedent established in United States v. Martinez-Salazar regarding proper voir dire scope.”

Dr. Poznek had straightened in his seat, clearly intrigued by the legal question - exactly the kind of engagement that would justify Roma’s challenge.

“Ms. Valenca,” Judge Donahue’s tone held warning, “you know we can’t delve into specific constitutional analysis during voir dire. The question is inappropriate.”
