“Did you notice anything odd about their timing?” Daniel moved to stand beside her, close enough that his presence made the oxygen molecules separating them dance. “The metadata shows they were filed at 3 AM.”
“Exactly what I was thinking.” Juniper turned slightly, finding him watching her with an intensity that made her forget legal strategy entirely. Their eyes met for a fraction too long before she forced herself to look back at the documents. “Who files at 3 AM unless they’re trying to hide something in plain sight?”
“Or rushing to cover their tracks.” His voice had dropped lower, wrapping around her like dark honey. She could feel the warmth radiating from him as he leaned closer to examine a highlighted section. “Look at this paragraph - the language is too careful, too precise.”
Juniper nodded, hyperaware of how his shoulder brushed against hers as he reached across to point out another section. “Like they had their legal team scrutinize every word.” She glanced up at him again, her senses ambushed by the way he was looking her over rather than studying the document.
