The court reporter, Mrs. Henderson, sat at her station, her experienced eyes betraying unusual concern as she watched Juniper’s team file in. Her fingers hovered over her type, ready to capture what she likely sensed would be a difficult hearing.

Juniper felt the weight of every step as she approached the counsel table, her heels thundering against the floor in a steady rhythm that matched the beat of her heart. The familiar smell of leather-bound law books and polished wood couldn’t mask the staleness of defeat already lingering in the air.

Daniel moved to speak as they settled into their seats, but Juniper cut him off with a sharp glance.

“You can refer to me as Jupiter now,” she said, her voice carrying just enough edge to make him flinch. The formality felt right - a wall rebuilt between them, professional and impenetrable.

Sophia busied herself with arranging their documents, her movements betraying the tension that crackled between them. The empty gallery behind them seemed to mock their isolation, the usual crowd of spectators notably absent for this emergency hearing.

Roma’s entrance transformed the courtroom’s atmosphere like a storm front rolling in. His tall frame dominated the space as he strode through the doors, each step calculated and casual. Despite the gravity of the proceedings, he wore a garish holiday sweater under his perfectly tailored suit jacket - reindeer prancing across his chest in what could only be a deliberate taunt. The festive display felt like a calculated insult, a way of saying he didn’t even need to take this hearing seriously enough to dress formally.
