“And?” Evelyn pressed, arching an eyebrow.

“And… normal stuff. Everyone I work with is lazy. They all just wanna clock out, and I’m upset about it,” Juniper said with a rueful grin, a hint of frustration seeping into her voice, the weight of her ambitions settling heavily on her shoulders.

Evelyn chuckled softly, her eyes crinkling at the corners, a mix of amusement and understanding in their depths. “You told me the other day you were at lunch with someone from the firm.”

“Yeah, Sofia. She’s the only one. Everyone else on the team isn’t really, you know, my type,” Juniper said, her tone light but edged with exasperation.

“I’m the one who’s going to have to carry the sword,” she added, as she sat back into her chair with confidence, the antique furniture groaning softly beneath her as if in agreement, a silent supporter of her cause.

“You need to relax with the quotes from your father. I know how you both can get,” Evelyn advised gently, placing a comforting hand on Juniper’s shoulder, the warmth seeping through the thick wool of her cardigan.
