“Tilly’s in back,” the bouncer had told them. “She’ll get you what you need.”
The three of them paused at the edge of the dance floor, eyes scanning the chaos for any path through to the back. Juniper felt Daniel shift closer, their shoulders almost touching as they surveyed the crowd.
“We could use this to our advantage,” Sophia shouted over the music, grinning at Juniper. “Have him create a distraction while we-”
Her words cut off as a woman materialized from the crowd, all silver and grace. Before anyone could react, she had Daniel’s hand and was pulling him toward the dance floor. Juniper’s hand twitched forward involuntarily, her body betraying her before she caught herself. He resisted, looking back at Juniper with something between panic and apology in his eyes.
Sophia’s gaze flickered between them, one eyebrow arching at the silent exchange.
“Go!” Juniper forced the word past the sudden tightness in her throat, her fingers curling into her palm. “We need to blend in.”
